The ultimate destiny of a company is determined by its leadership’s vision for the business.
This vision establishes the direction or destination of where they want the company to go. In other words, what does a successful and thriving business look like to them? This cannot be a pie-in-the-sky Vision, but instead a concrete, specific, and detailed description of what they want their enterprise to look like.
In conjunction with this vision, leadership needs to determine the values it holds near and dear. Once both these have been specifically established, they can used to transform an organization.
An organization needs to identify its unique make-or-break, must-do activities for it to be fully successful. These are called a company’s Critical Success Factors—the things that a business must absolutely, positively do, and do correctly, to be successful. An organization will typically have 15-25 Critical Success Factors areas or functions upon which the entire company is dependent.
Next, an organization needs to develop a comprehensive strategy to achieve its vision and accomplish its unique Critical Success Factors.
This strategy needs to address all six of the following functional areas of a company:
- Vision and Leadership
- Marketing and Sales
- Production
- Finance and Administration
- Human Assets
- Information Technology
Then it must develop and implement a plan to execute its strategy.
This execution plan needs to develop a day-by-day, week-by-week, and month-by-month plan of the tactical things that must be done to achieve its overall strategic plan. This execution plan consists of the following five components:
- Systems
- Personnel
- Metrics
- Quality Loops
- Incentives
Finally, it needs to establish a spirit of innovation that will allow the application of transformational innovation within the entire organization. This will enable a company to differentiate it from its competition.
These five building blocks enable leadership to determine what must be accomplished to create the organization they desire.
There are two reasons why the above concepts are critical.
First, studies by McKinsey & Co. and the Harvard Business School have shown 55% to 70% of a business’ success is tied to proper execution. However, an organization cannot properly execute a Strategy without first having one to execute. Next, a company cannot develop an effective Strategy without knowing its unique Critical Success Factors. Finally, a business cannot determine its Critical Success Factors without knowing where they want it to go, its vision.
Second, without a cohesive and comprehensive operational plan, invariably a business will revert to functioning in a crisis management mode and dealing with the “crisis du jour” while “putting out fires” all day long. This may mean they end up functioning in a tyranny-of-the-urgent syndrome.
The result of this is that a company can end up going nowhere fast. This is often the cause of business owner burn out. This burn out sets in because company leadership ends up doing the same thing day after day, week after week, month after month and year after year, while getting no closer to its overall goals. Use of the Structure of Success™ methodology not only allows leadership and management to avoid burn out but also creates a business “system” that ends up maximizing the market value of the company.
Creating the Business One Longs For
Use of a structured methodology enables the creation of the company one longs for—that is, the business of one’s dreams. While the Structure of Success™ utilizes is a systematic approach, it is not a cookie-cutter approach to operating a company. No two organizations will implement the concepts that comprise the Structure of Success™ in the same way.
It is important to note that enormous amounts of leadership and management’s time, money, and efforts go into trying to achieve its objectives, the use of the Structure of Success™ reduces the margin of error in the pursuit of these goals. It also eliminates the guess work in taking your enterprise to the next level. The Structure of Success™ methodology leaves nothing to chance.
The concepts and ideas contained in the Structure of Success™ methodology are game changing and the implementation of them will forever transform an organization.
Past revenue growth of organizations who have used our Structure of Success™ methodology include:
- A construction support company that went from $600,000 to $10,000,000 in one year
- A start-up health-care organization that grew from $0 to $16,000,000 in three years
- An HVAC company that increased from $350,000 to $40,000,000 in five years
While not every business will have these dramatic results, the use of this methodology can and will transform a company.
What Is Unique About the Structure of Success™ Process?
There are five unique attributes of the Structure of Success™ methodology:
- It is graphical in nature and because of this it is intuitive and easy to understand. This enables company owners to see a clear picture of how the various parts of a business fit together.
- It is built on the concept that the use of a structured and systematic approach to operate an enterprise will create one that is not overly dependent on its owner and allows them to scale and grow the company.
- The entire methodology uses concepts that enable an organization to perform an ongoing series of self-assessments. This empowers a company to effectively plan, then execute, then evaluate which leads back to planning. As the entity continues to cycle through this process it is continually improving itself.
- It is scalable to the size and complexity of the business and can be implemented in small steps.
- It is not a bunch of theory or meant to be just an exercise, but instead it consists of actionable concepts and ideas that move an organization closer to its goals. This results in a disciplined execution of an effective and comprehensive game plan that enables the organization’s objectives to be achieved.
Relatedly, we have found one area that perplexes many company owners and leaders is how all the areas of a business are supposed to fit together and operate.
In reality, a business is like an intricate jig-saw puzzle where one piece of the organization fits with another piece and when all the pieces are put together properly, they form a company that functions correctly and is an attractive mosaic of its components.
However, many business owners and leaders view their business as one cohesive unit—kind of like a big earth ball that the business owner is trying to push in one direction or another. This leads to their frustration because their organization is not responding to their efforts.
To be able to take their company where they want it to go they need to understand how the different components of a business fit together. The use of the Structure of Success™ methodology enables business owners and leaders to mold their organization into a cohesive unit that will properly respond to their guidance and direction.
