February 2023 – Innovation Alert – A New Software Program That Has Changed The World

Once in a great while something occurs that totally changes life worldwide. Sometimes, this is bad and other times this can be good.

COVID-19 did this in a bad way, and now an innovative new Artificial Intelligence software program may have also done this in a good way!

ChatGPT is a computer application (app) powered by artificial intelligence that can quickly answer questions. It’s a chatbot that can interact with the user via text.

It was introduced in November 2022 and had more than 100 million users within first two months, making it the fastest-growing consumer application on record in a 60-day span.

ChatGPT Is Great For Brainstorming

In an innovative way, ChatGPT accesses massive amounts of information from books, websites, and other sources to generate responses.

It describes itself as an “AI language model developed by OpenAI that uses deep learning to generate human-like text responses to questions and prompts.”

ChatGPT can write emails, poems, business plans, and computer code. It can offer editing suggestions and feedback, create jokes, generate workout plans, and in one experiment, pass a law school exam.

One of ChatGPT’s best uses is brainstorming and coming up with innovative ideas. It can be used to suggest ideas the user had not thought about. This can make people more creative. Alternatively, it provide counterarguments to what is being feed into it.

What Positive Things Can ChatGPT Do For Your Organization?

What can ChatGPT do for your organization and how does it apply to your business?

First, ChatGPT can be used by your organization to beat your competition. Feeding information on your business and industry could allow an AI Chatbot to “brainstorm” innovations or strategies that could catapult your company forward.

Second, by the very nature of a competitive marketplace, businesses are driven toward trying to be more efficient and hopefully delivering more effective results.

This concept of efficiency basically means “trying to do things in a better way” – which is the true definition of innovation.

However, in reality innovation is not singular, but is in fact multi-faceted, because there are actually 9 types of Innovation.Innovation Consulting and Business Planning in Atlanta, Georgia

Cost Reductions and Productivity Gains

One of these 9 types is Cost Reductions and Productivity Gains. This arena involves applying innovation to lower operating expenses of a company or make it more efficient.

Since AI Chatbots perform brainstorming very well, they could be used to come up with  innovations in this arena.

For instance, a process to reduce wasted material in a manufacturing activity, or using new software that enables field service personnel to be more productive.

How could your company use an AI chatbot to reduce its costs or improve productivity?

There are a multitude of ways.

For instance, you could take your entire employee product/service knowledge base and upload it to an AI chatbot that would be used to train and retrain your employees.

Another way might involve an AI chatbot providing support to your customers as a result of adding all your customer and product support information into it.

I can foresee AI Chatbot software being developed and sold to companies in the same way that businesses license standard Word Processing, Spreadsheet, or Presentation software.

Solicit Employee Input

While there are a plethora of ways they could be used, a key step in the proper use of AI Chatbots should involve soliciting employee input for likely opportunities. This is because your personnel would be familiar with areas of your organization that could benefit from an expert system.

But keep in mind that in using an AI Chatbot there can be a large difference between making an enterprise  more efficient, versus producing effective results. Just throwing technology at a situation can have quite undesirable results.

For instance, recently I ate at an authentic Columbian restaurant that had eliminated printed menus, and the only way to order was from scanning a QR Code that took you to their website.

However, when accessing their website on a cell phone the photos of the items were not aligned with the title of the Item and its description (much of which was in Spanish). This meant you could not simultaneously display the photo, title of the Item, and its description on the same screen.

Therefore, you had to continually move back and forth from one side to the other side of the screen. This resulted in having to guess at what you were ordering. While the use of QR Codes was efficient for the restaurant, it was not yet an effective way for a customer to place an order.

Where to Start

In your potential use of AI Chatbots look for areas or functions whose operation involves accessing large amounts of information and data to dispense expert answers or knowledge.

Hone in on interactions with your customers in the areas of support and service, and how to make your employees more productive by giving them better tools to work with.

As far as markets that could benefit from using AI Chatbots the opportunities are almost endless, but arenas high on the list would include:

  • Medical
  • Legal
  • Technical
  • Environmental
  • Engineering

However, keep in mind, that the use of AI Chatbots must not only yield lower costs and greater efficiency for an organization, but must also improve the experience of the user and result in an effective use of the technology.
